New exhibition by Maureen Selwood

WITH YOUR FACE CLOSE TO MINE: Drawings by Maureen Selwood

October 21 - November 23, 2010
Opening reception Saturday, October 23, 6:00-9:00 p.m.

Track 16 is pleased to present new exhibitions of drawings by Maureen Selwood.

Selwood looks at the ways childhood can define us: "Symbols, saints, and visions were a normal part of my life growing up. I am looking back at childhood and recognizing moments of savage beauty and the secret places and events of that time. My sister and I often inhabited an imaginary world as a result of being left alone and to escape the confusion of our mother’s words and actions. As twins, we had our own secret language. These drawings are about using another language."

Maureen Selwood works in hand-drawn animation for film, installation and performance. She was a recipient of a Prix de Rome in 2003 and currently teaches at CalArts. Her films have been shown worldwide.

At the same time there will be another exhibition: THE SECRET LIVES OF STIFFS: PHOTOGRAPHS BY ANNE FISHBEIN. Both artists raise important questions about our search for identity.
